La Paz is one of the main diving areas of the Sea of Cortez. There are numerous diving sites offering a wide range of possibilities in terms of depth, fauna and experience levels of the divers. It is possible to dive in natural reefs, wrecks, in the company of sea lions, hammerhead sharks, whale sharks,
giant rays and much more.
Dive sites will be decided based on the level of experience of the group and the conditions of the waters and climate.
The diving sites are located near the Islands: Isla Espiritu Santo, Isla Cerralvo and Isla Partida.
Some of these sites are:
"La Reina":
Rock formation with a lot of marine life and one of the best diving sites with the best visibility and ideal for diving with current, where besides fish there is the possibility of finding giant rays or whale sharks, despite being a shallow area. The maximum depth is 20 meters.
"Ferry Salvatierra":
In 1976 this Ferry traveled regularly from Topolobampo to La Paz, sinking to a depth of 20 meters after colliding with the Swanne Reef, this 60 meter long ferry has formed one of the most varied ecosystems with most of the tropical fish of the Sea of Cortez.
"San Rafaelito":
A picturesque lighthouse located on a reef at a depth of 75 feet (25 meters). Large amount of fish and occasional sea lions, take advantage of the comfort of this rock, just a short distance from our Marina La Paz. It´s also the favorite place for night diving.
"Los Islotes":
The Main Colony.- Ideal for the sighting of the sea lions, especially in its juvenile stage since it is where the largest number of sea lions congregate.
Punta Oeste.- In this place is another group of sea lions, but also a large number of reef fish and sometimes you can see eagle rays.
"El Bajo Norte" (advanced divers with experience in deep dives and with strong currents):
It forms part of the rock formations, known as "El Bajo", with a minimum depth of 20 meters and a maximum depth of 40 meters. It is characterized by the large number of hammerhead sharks found there.
