Located inside the Sian Kaan Biosphere Reserve, Punta Herrero is a fishermen’s village with only 35 inhabitants dedicated to lobster fishing. Its location in the most remote area of ​​the Reserve, has made that, for years they have lived apart from tourists, so today still keeps the authenticity of the Caribbean fishermen villages.

We get to this beautiful spot, located 44 miles to the North of Mahahual, through a bumpy soil and sand road between the jungle and the Caribbean beaches, the best scenario for observing wonderful tropical birds.

Once in the village, in a boat belonging to the local fishing cooperative, we get to the reef to snorkel in a Nineteenth Century steamship that hosts a huge amount of marine life. Among the remains live schools of snappers, turtles, shad and barracudas.

After the snorkel we will get back to the boat and will visit on it the “Holy Spirit” bay, an eco-system formed by mangrove islands that species such as manatees, dolphins and birds use as a refuge. During the trip we will listen to the fishermen the details about their way of living and the methods they use for fishing.

We end the tour going back to the beach and eating fresh fish -or lobster if it is the season- in the only existing restaurant in the village.
