Description
Cenote Chikin-Ha means in Mayan "water from the west" due to the location of it. It has a depth of 6 to 50 Ft.
Chikin-Ha, according to the Mayan culture, was considered the gate of Xilbalba, which was the entrance to the depths of the underworld.
Thanks to the low depth of the cenote, the entrance of light allows to see the crystal clear waters to appreciate one of the most beautiful cenotes in the Riviera Maya. This cenote has an open cavern that is ideal for beginners who are already certified, also it has a closed cavern for divers with a little more experience, as we pass through tunnels to reach the closed cavern.
Tajma Ha got its name from the first explorers who dived through this cave system, reminding them of the beauty of the renowed Indian temple. However, now it is known as Tajma Ha; the word 'Ha' has a Mayan origin and means water.
Tajma Ha is located 25 kilometers south of Playa del Carmen, here you will be able to admire the haloclines not too deep because of the excellent visibility of the water. The haloclines are the meeting surfaces between large quantities of fresh water and salt water at the bottom of the cenote.
Diving here is a unique and exciting experience since you can enjoy spectacular light games in its crystal clear waters and observe the different caverns that make up this cenote. In addition you can enjoy and admire the beautiful decoration of the cenote with fossils, stalactites and stalagmites that are inside.
